On to Monticello and UVA

With Mike around we ventured further, going all the way to Charlottesville to visit with Mike's sister and her husband - Judi and Toni. We had a wonderful time - and still are watiting pics of them. :-) While there, we visited Monticello and UVA.

And then over to UVA, Mike's first college experience.

Highlights by Mom:
  • Getting time with Judi and Toni - they were great to the kids, and of, their house!!
  • Seeing T Jefferson's amazing home.
  • And then his incredible university.
  • Eating at Chik-fil-a after a long drive with nothing familar in sight.

Days in DC, roaming the sites, some with Mike!

We had fun roaming DC and seeing all the monuments.
Mike was even able to join us for some.

The start of a cold, long day of walking and admiring our nation's monuments.

Jefferson

FDR

MLK jr

Korean

Lincoln - see shots from earlier post.

Vietnam

56 Signers of the Declaration

WWII

And we finished the day with ice skating on the Mall. It was Owen's first time and he did well, especially with a bit of help from Hannah.

A few days later, Mike took us to see Arlington and boy it was cold,
so cold that we opted out of half the tour!

Highlights by Mom:
  • Seeing our nation's history captured through art and monument.
  • Being moved to tears by the love and loss of our great country.
  • Enjoying watching the kids take it all in and hoping they come to love the USA.
  • The kids ice skating in DC - how cool is that!
  • Having Mike make our family complete again.
  • Hot chocolate anywhere on the mall to warm us up.
