And down to Detroit for more Deb time!

Deb hooked us up in a friends driveway, and from there we were able to see a ton.

Lake swimming, people seriously do this - no ocean around.

The Henry Ford Museum

 Hot dog, anyone?

Rosa Parks Bus, wow what a hands on experience!

The Wright Brothers

Charles Kuralt's RV - I like mine better.

We ended the day with a quick trip into Canada, only we didnt have documentation so they were a bit upset with us. We got home, however, after some rigorous questioning.

And to feed our appetites after such an experience, Five Guys was in order.

The next day the kids and I went back to see Greenfield Village.
It was so spectacular, the amount of history there.

Heinz 57!

Thomas Edison's house

A 1750's working farm house.

As close as we'll get to the Cotswolds on the trip, but tea services was closed.

Daniel Webster's House

William McGuffy, of McGuffy Reader, his school.

George Washington Carver's place.

A Round house - O got to push the rounder around.

No pics, but the arts village was awesome - glass blowing, carding wool,
cutting timber, pottery and more

Highlights by Mom:
  • Seeing Deb and Phil and staying in Shirley's driveway
  • Staying in MI longer, we love it
  • All of the Henry Ford area, what a field trip!
  • Getting my kids through Homeland Security without documentation!
  • Movies and relaxing
  • Burgers at Five Guys
  • Owen making a friend while riding his bike around
  • Cedar Point with Deb and Phil, but that's Ohio

What a time with the Macombers!

Our friends, Kathleen, Will and Pilar, invited us to visit them at their lake cottage in Harbor Springs, MI on Little Traverse Bay. We had such a great time and were so spoiled
that we stayed a few extra days.

Sunday brunch and a dinner at the club!

Old AU friends - Carol Johnston, Will Macomber and me

Tubing in Will's old Chris Craft was awesome!

The Squash Rocket at a local farm!

Will took man-handled a bike just for Owen - it has been a super gift as we are on the road!

A Maple Sugar farm tour and Kilwins Chocolate factory tour (No Blummers in site!)

Another night at the Little Traverse Bay Club

Bike riding into town for Yummies ice cream!

A beach BBQ - all fun and friends!

Park Day and free time

Sailing in a Regatta with Macomber friends. 4th place isnt bad with dead weight onboard!

Lastly, the Petosky Country fair and a little slice of Americana - watch it all!

Highlights by Mom:
Really, the pics say it all, but mostly it was having quality time with the Macombers in their awesome summer home on Little Traverse Bay. Hannah loved having good wifi. Owen loved having others around to play with and i just enjoyed not being in charge for a while! Thank you, thank you, Will and Kathleen.

Parts of MI

We got to see Hannah's greatest AU friend, Maddy. Met them just north of the MI border.

On the way north we stopped in Grand Rapids to see the Gerald Ford Museum and Library - fascinating and well-worth the stop!

Though we are an A/U family, Weldon, the Leelanau camp director gave us a great tour of the Leelanau/Kohana camps. Owen may be a convert - he loved the dunes and the human foosball.

Cherry Republic - a must in Michigan

High Points by Mom:
  • Seeing cool sand dunes
  • Having a campground app that helps us find a place to sleep
  • Seeing another CS camp and realizing it is cool as well. :-)
  • Cherry Republic was cool
  • Cell phones so we can hook up with friends in the most random places
  • Gerald Ford should have won another term!
